At Hammock Street Church we don’t believe that simply singing a song is an act of true worship. True worship happens when a person tries to make decisions that please God. Our corporate worship on a Sunday morning is simply a response to our God, collectively thanking Him and praising Him for who He is on a daily basis in our lives. Songs of praise and worship simply give us words to articulate how we think and feel about our creator.
Because God is a creator, and we are made in His image, we believe that when we create art that draws attention to our God’s characteristics, it pleases Him. We also strive to bring the best in effort and quality to that art because our God is more than deserving of it. Whether our music sounds perfect or not, the importance is placed on the individual heart’s offering.
Our tech team, vocalists and band members view leading worship on a Sunday morning as a privilege and opportunity to serve God, and the congregation of Hammock Street Church, with the talents they’ve been given. Our artists see no difference in the gifts they bring than those of the greeters, nursery workers or any other ministry in this community of believers. We are all part of one body, seeking to contribute anything we can bring personally to put a spotlight on who our God is.
Artists are scheduled on a monthly rotation and are expected to play for both the 9:00 am and 10:45 am services for the weeks which they are scheduled with an 8:00 call time for preparations for service. Music is given two weeks in advance for optimum preparation. Mid week rehearsals are mandatory for a team member that is scheduled to serve as it is an important time for music preparation and team development. Our music ministry continually strives for unity and building relationships amongst the team and as we grow closer together musically, and as a family, it is great to watch what God can do.
